How to make families travelling with small children happy

More than ten years ago, I wrote a book "Travelling with chidren" (in Swedish only) with my former wife. Since then, my own children have grown into travellers in their own right, but every time I see small kids travel, a certain feeling ensurfaces. But it is not always easy....

The hassle when everyone is to board a budget airline flight with no designated seat is notorious. It is a question of survival of the biggest and sturdiest, and that hardly ever includes those travelling with small children.

Wizz Air, departing from Belgrade to Skavsta (Stockholm) did find a solution. “Everyone apart from those with small children should come first” announced the gatekeeper and the crowd got up and stormed forward, down the stairs and into the bus, parked just 20 meters from the plane. Once full, the doors to the bus where duly closed, effectively trapping the bunch of male, testosterone-high travellers inside. In the meantime, small children and their parents could board the plane at their own pace.

Then, the bus was moved in a half-circle and the greedy crowd was let out. It was a great fun to see.
